I have been using Vplanner to plan my dives but most of my buddies use Zplanner so I decided to download a try a copy. ZPlanner looks very similar to VPlanner. Is VPlanner just the commercial version?

I've run scenarios and discovered that Zplanner using 30% conservatism (add 30% to all deco stop times) gives results very similar to Vplanner on nominal (0%) conservatism.

Vplanner also gives many short, deep stops of about 1 minute each, beginning at about 28 meters. Is this just to document an appropriately slow ascent rate? I cut all tables with the “Deep Stop” feature turned off with both programs.

I believe that Zplanner was a Buhlman algo with deepstops, Vplanner is VPMB/E. Different deco algos. The reason why they look alike is that Ross Hemingway programmed both. I believe he moved from Buhlman to VPM around 2001.

I could be wrong though.

Zplanner is modified buhlman algo...the deep stops are up to you with Zplanner, you can have it add them as Pyle stops.. OR you can add your own in (as waypoints). When planning dives I use Zplanner and add my own GVE deep stops anywhere from 20-30% depending on how they fit in with my dive. Then I add a few more stops (18,15,12) as well...

Just my input...
