I am considering a Zeagle Ranger, but while I like everything else on this BC, I am somewhat concerned about the "mickey-mouse" weight release system. It looks very fragile to me.

Zeagle users, what are your experiences about the ripcord system?

I don't think you need to get the Ripcord system if you don't want to, you can opt for the Zip-touch system instead. :)

I know the neat thing about Zeagle is that it's pretty much like a BP/wing in that you can customize it with the features you want.

IMHO the Zeagle weight intergrated systems is one of the best around.

No crappy velcro to come loose and lose your weigh!

The Ripcord System is reliable and easy to use. Top loading the weights through the zipper is simple and convenient. Use the yellow weight pouches as they'll fit perfect and let you carry the weights to and from the dive site. I used a carabiner to hook them conveniently together. Softweights, by the way, are more confortable.

Threading the Ripcord after use is a bit of a pain, but simple enough, and something you don't usually have to do.

I wish Zeagle made a Ripcord harness (one release on each side) for use with bp/w, because I don't have a decent weight system since my switch. :upset:

Anyway, ScubaRon, the Ripcord system isn't something to be concerned about, mine held up without problems for years. If anything make sure you actually need the 44lbs. of lift the stock bladder has. It has a lot of drag. I'd order it with the 35lbs. bladder (stock on Scout/Escape) for streamlining. Or better yet with the new 34lbs. wing if that one fits AND is circular.

There is an easy alternative to using the ripcord. Unzip the weight pocket and pull out the weights...

I check my ripcord every time I load the weights to make sure it hasn't worked itself a little loose and risk an accidental dump.

So far I've never even had to tighten it... it's always been just where I left it after that first time I took the ten minutes to rethread it after playing around with it.

I used my friend's Ranger w/ripcord system on several dives before purchasing the Zeagle BP/Harness system for my own use. Having used a variety of rental gear, I can say that both the ripcord system and the velcro release system that my rig features are two of the best quick-release weight integrated systems I've seen or used.

Said friend has over 100 dives in his Ranger without incident. I'm only up to twelve in mine, but so far so good.

In general, I have been consistently impressed with Zeagle's quality and commitment to excellent products.

I just did my 200th dive today with my Zeagle ranger. I have been diving with it three seasons now and have never had a problem with the rip cord system. I check from underneath when I am gearing up to make sure cords are in place. I've never had to quick release them but it's never come undone on it's own.
I had to thread my son's before he used it the first time and it was not a problem, just looked at the directions. I see lots of other people with integrated systems loosing their weight pockets accidentally. I would recommend the Zeagle.db

I have the Zeagle ranger and the rip cord system is my favorit thing about it. My only complaint is that the pockets are hard to get to.

I own the Zeagle Escape and have almost nothing but rave reviews for it and the weight release system. It seems as if though the people that gripe about the ripcord system have only looked at them in catologs, much less dive one. It actually isn't that complicated to re-thread either, just look at it and practice re-threading a few times. I can do it in about five minutes.
