ChrisM:
All the more reason to go with other people that are experienced. That's how I learned. WHile other people were getting tumbled in the surf because they were not timing the sets right, Ana (on her fourth beach dive, I think?) simply strolled into the water and made it look easy!

I also like expanding outside of OC. Of course, I am not so dedicated that I will drive from, oh, say Temecula.... and not dive ;-)

Chris

I agree, I can't imagine driving from Temecula or Clairmont down to Laguna and NOT dive.....

So what does everyone think about diving? Are the conditions going to be o.k. by then?

Ana

The original post suggested Sat 13 March and then other mentioned that Sundays were better. Also, have you decided on the location....assuming the weather is being nice to us?

Hi Everyone,

Count me in for the dive(s) if I am available!!! Robert, I would be happy to dive with you on Sundays too! I just got another tank, so I am geared up to do multiple dives. LOL I just bought a 'scuba' car too to haul all of my gear. Convertibles just aren't condusive to beach diving. LOL It now resides as my 'fun' car.

I LOVE beach diving and want to dive every spot possible. I would eventulally like to make up a survey for each spot to get input from everyone as to which is there favorite spot along our coast.

I am also up for night diving as well. I know Shaw's Cove pretty well, as well as North Cresent Bay/ Seal Rock....way better than the Rookery at Santa Barbara Island!

Hey Melvin, remember me??? We dove together almost 2 years ago! I have come a LONG way since then, I am now a Rescue Diver and will be starting DM pretty soon. Whooo hooooooo!!!

Take care and I look forward to meeting some of you and diving with all of you!

Regards,

Jan

I'll be at Treasure Island in Laguna on the 7th at 7:00 a.m. if anyone is intrested.

Since the weather is so variable right now, may I suggest that we keep things flexible for that weekend and make a decision on the time/place as that weekend draws nearer? That way, we (wrinkles and pasley?) can decide based upon the best site for the conditions. Also, Mother Nature may determine whether Saturday or Sunday is better.

I voted for MOSS before reading that there are some newbie's...Shaws or Crescent Bay would be better for them.

Count me in I will probably post it on our web page if you dont mind...I'll wait til I hear from you first though!

I will be there for the dive no mater which day we decide on (13 or 14th ). Conditions are clearing up nicely and if we do not get another storm should be good. But we should make the weather call on Thursday or Friday before the dive.

At present it looks like Treasure Island (Montage Resort) is the site selected for the March dive.

Montage Resort Information.
Far South Laguna Beach 30801 SOUTH COAST HIGHWAY Laguna Beach, CA
Also called Goff Island on the map: http://mapserver.maptech.com/homepa...maptech.com/homepage/index.cfm&latlontype=DMS The resort replaced the trailer park.

Parking: 40 car parking garage located at the corner of WESLEY DRIVE and PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY under the green grass of Treasure Island Park. This is at the far south end of the resort. Parking cost $1.00 per hour so bring crisp $1.00 bills to feed the machine (limit 3 hours). Use the WESLEY Drive entrance off PCH and NOT the Montage Road entrance. If desired you can drop your gear closer to the dive site by using the Montage Road entrance. If (when) the guard stops you just give him the magic password "costal access" and he will let you pass.

Diving: There are two ramps with matching stairs to two coves here, but you could easily reach either cove from either ramp/stair. There is a bit of a walk on a level paved path to the dive site so be prepared for that. There is a shower at the far left (pictures) dive site. Sandy beach and lots of rock reef structure. There is a reef off shore about 100 yard as well. This site offers a fairly well protected cove and a short surface swim to get to the diving. Underwater you will find a sand bottom covered in plants, and I have seen 6 bat rays all at once here, then there is the rock reef system which is quite good too.

In the pictures attached the site is still under construction. In the overview picture the parking garage in on the right and the two ramps with matching stairs are in the center and left of the picture. To date I have only dove the left most stairs next to the golf course. The two other pictures show the garage better and the dive site better. In the dive site picture I have dove the left most of the two coves so far.
