Coast Guard's efforts fail to revive diver

A diver died Sunday after his heart stopped at sea.

The Wrightsville Beach Coast Guard reported that the diver, from the commercial diving boat the Aquatic Safari, wasn't breathing when he was brought to the surface.

The Coast Guard boat went 18 miles out from Masonboro Inlet to pick up the diver and met an emergency medical boat halfway back.

CPR was performed aboard the Coast Guard boat, but Boatswain Mate 2nd Class Scott Goss said the man's heart still wasn't beating by the time they transferred him to the medical boat. He was taken to Cape Fear Memorial Hospital.

The man's name was not immediately released.

I live near here and I'm going to pick up some tanks today. I'll see if I can get the whole scoop. This newspaper article is different from what they said on the radio by the way. On the radio they said the guy got back on the boat, handed his mask to the DM and colapsed. I'll see what I can find out at the dive shop today.
