Coast Guard rescues man having breathing problems after dive
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, New Hanover County — The Coast Guard picked up a man from a commercial dive boat about 46 miles east of Wrightsville Beach Wednesday after he experienced breathing problems after a dive.

Coast Guard Sector North Carolina Command Center watchstanders received an alert on the distress radio frequency that some was experiencing difficulty breathing after a 35-minute dive from the commercial dive boat Olympus.

A Coast Guard flight surgeon recommended a medical evacuation and a boat was launched from Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach with an emergency crew from the Wrightsville Beach Fire Department to medevac the diver.

The diver was taken back to shore to shore and transported to New Hanover Medical Center for further care.
