I am not sure about up in Sanilac, but down here, off of Waukegan, the buoys are all placed and tended by the charter boats. We usually cut the surface buoys off for the winter. Surface buoys never survive the winter and it is easier on the rest of the rig if it is not floating. We go out and replace the buoys and make any necessary repairs on the moorings when we start operating in the spring. If you are going to go out before the charter boats you will likely have to find the wrecks on your own and set an anchor.

On the West shore Mid Centrral the State and some dive clubs like Green Bay Scuba this year hang the moorings Memorial week, other wrecks are done by private folks and are hit and miss,
so have good no#s Sonar, and hook in
Dive safe,
Brad
