and you are.... male?

One thing that comes to my mind seeing these kinds of things on sites of shops I want to buy stuff from is... gee, I wanna make sure I buy online vs the shop because I ain't so sure I be treated too equal in the shop. Or will my "female name" on the order give me same service or am more in risk getting "the stupid talk" because of it. After all, this does happen in many male-dominated sports (I was not born yesterday to sports world).

I've had at least half a dozen female dive friends in that shop and they were all treated respectfully and professionally. If there was the slightest hint of anything else, I would not patronize the shop.

Glad the pic it gone. It was in poor taste.

that really is the bottom line (no pun intended). it's something you'd expect from frat boys, not a professional business.

To be quite frank though, I think we've all done things in our lives that probably seemed ill-thought out in hindsight. Before you toss aside what has been a staple in the cave diving community, lets see how they respond to a calm suggestion. The owner may not even be aware the image is on the site...

[Message sent. Let's see how it's dealt with]

Perrone- thanks for the positive and pro-active approach you took with this and kudos to the owner for taking down the image. I agree that we all are human & make mistakes, so I can give people a break too.

Did the owner have anything to say about the it, eg was he unaware of the image, or just made a goof? I mean, intent is important... I want to buy stuff from Salvo, but it might affect my decision if I knew the corporate culture was of this ilk.

I didn't ask, and he didn't say. I mentioned the rather poor taste of the image and the fact the dive community I was hearing from was not pleased. Apparently, he got the message before the shop opened, and the image was gone before the doors opened this morning.

If someone else wants to ask him his intent, that's fine by me. I was just hoping we could get the image removed, and move forward. And that is done.

well, you should direct him to this page so he can see what's going on

and also thank him for his good call

it's nice to see responsive business owners

i love their products, and will continue buying from them, and have supported them despite the "bad press" some people want to keep dregging up.

had they dug in their heels, that would have been it for me.

Well, the unfortunate thing is the people who are going to bring this issue up in the shop in near future are likely not going to be the ones offended but the ones who found the images hilarious. I bet there is going to be a lot of joking around. I hope to hear the opposite.

To me the motivation does mean a little bit. If this was “publicity for whatever price”, I find it very poor judgment, and have to wonder why would a company who lately has gotten so much positive attention need this. Smells of desperation, and very poor imagination.

I am pleased to see the prompt action too.

pikki,

The owner has been made aware of your feelings and others here. Why not pick up the phone, and have a discussion with him. I'm sure he'd be pleased to speak to you.

I don't know even if a link like this can be posted on this forum... Women do you find this funny and would you buy from this company?

I was really planning on needing two can lights soon but hey, my number one option just flew outta the window I think....

I found the add to be quite humorous. I was on their website just checking out their awesome new 35watt light until I came across a chic with a harness on naked. After a long day of work I really needed the laugh and the thing is if I found it offensive a simple click of the mouse and it's gone. Instead people have to come this site and cry about something so stupid. If you don't like it don't look at it, wow how easy is that. I am so sick of people who think they are so self-righteous. This is the United States and don't forget it. Now if I can only get my wife to try on my harness naked that would be awesome and what a turn that would be. Hopefully I have not offended anyone, well actually I really don't care.
If you let this ad influence your decision on whether or not you will buy from Salvo you will be truly missing out on one of the finest companies for diving gear. So it will be your loss.

My guess is that an immature employee of the web maintenance staff created the ad photos as a practical joke to show someone else on the team. I doubt he/she ever intended the photos to make it to the real website. He/she probably just forgot to pull the offensive joke photos prior to updating the site. Another possibility is that an outside person hacked into the site and placed the photos as a joke or a harrassment.

It's quite obvious that the photos were not intended to be a real ad. The quality of the photos are not ad quality, and none of the other product photos on the website include models in the shot.
