I know they won, 2-0, and all, but...

Will the REAL Brasil PLEASE stand up??

Well, it wasn't pretty, but I'll take it, 2-0. Once again, their crosses were WAAAY off target, and again nothing happened til they put Robinho in. That guys a little firecracker... made his first shot on goal in the first 45 seconds he was playing.

Now there's a chance Brasil will play USA if the stars align right.. won't THAT be fun..

muahahahahahaha..

Yeah, Brazil have been sucking it up like a sponge. They will not get very far if they continue to play at this level.

Oh, this country DOES like football....just the wrong football :)

I'm really pleased at the good showing of our side in the match against Italy.

As for the US liking soccer vs. football, it may take a while, but there are gains in interest in soccer in the US (and even some evidence of erosion of participant interest in touch football) though it's clearly still not the case on a professional/spectator/tv programming level. Those of us who enjoy soccer hope that increased interest will eventually bring a rise to world-class standards in US professional soccer and therefore greater media coverage. Kind of a chicken and egg thing. It's intriguing to note that there was a jump in recreational soccer participation in the US in the years immediately after the US hosted the World Cup and the matches were televised.

Anyway, I pulled this info from the US Embassy/Germany site http://worldcup2006.usembassy.de/

Increasing Interest among Young Athletes
Soccer also became extremely popular among young athletes in the 1990s. 70 percent of all players are age 6-17 and 25 percent of all players are age 18-44.
Registration on U.S. Youth Soccer Association teams climbed approximately 90 percent to nearly 3.2 million players in 2002-03 from 1990-91.

The number of adult soccer players has also increased approximately 80 percent to more than 5 million since 1987. Statistics also show that while interest in other sports is declining, there is increasing interest in Soccer. The number of total Soccer participants (6-years plus) in 2003 was 17,679,000.

if we can get every team we play to score against itself, we're set!

Remember what happened to the last player that scored an own goal against us? His name was Andres Escobar and he played for Colombia... :11:

No one, that I have noticed, has even mentioned that! I certainly haven't forgotten it.

Didn't they shoot him like 7 times?

we need to say to these superachievers (relax, guys... enjoy life), "look, guys,
we need to be fair. every time you score a goal against us, you got to score
against yourself to. and we promise (and hope to die) that if we ever score against
you, we'll score against ourselves right away too!"

see the beauty of this simple, yet devastating plan? we'll never score, so no
worries about having to live up to our bargain. the other teams will ALWAYS tie
itself, and we can hope that maybe we can zap the scoreboard with EMT warfare
units, and show ourselves AHEAD at the end of the grame.

brilliant
