may i say today it is good to be an Aussie!! last night in sydney, Australia v's Uraguay.

Australia down one match and needs to win by 2 points to go to the World Cup - first time in 31 years. (we are not allowed to compete in the oceanic division for some stupid reason).

At the end of the game, Australia in front but the series tied. The aussies go into overtime - no score. The aussies go into penalty shootout - and wins!!!

1st time in 31 years, Australia is going to the World Cup. Well done team.

Well done, Trinis!! :D :59:

The Socceroos (Australia) and Switzerland have advanced, as well. Spain and Italy should be in good shape, but Norway and the Czechs will be a battle.

The last time the Socceroos were in the World Cup, it was also in Germany. How ironic! LOL

Well done, OZ!! :D

Well done to Trinidad and Tobago.

I hope England don't play them :)

I hope so too :)..

Go Socceroos you guys totally deserved it, you've been out in the wilderness for far too long :D.
Saw some drunk? Aussie fans on the news singing 'We're going to Germany.... We're going to Germany" Hehe.

I'll raise a glass to that!

EDIT: - Link about the match and Bahraini's behaviour.

the news report this morning was 83,000 at the game, tens of thousands out at clubs and pubs and zero arrests - a well behaved effort i thought.

better footage of the change room after the game. John Travolta is in Australia and he went in to say congrats - the team started singing "your the one that i want" and he joined in, dont think the guy new what hit him.

I'm going to  if England and Australia get drawn into the same group

Actually the Aussies won the Oceania division, but....it is such a weak division that there is no direct place in the World Cup for the winner. This has always been a problem for the Aussies because they are always in these playoffs.
They have now led a successful petition to be included in the Asian division for 2010, that division has 4 direct places in the finals, therefore the Aussies have a good chance of a direct placing.

Then i guess its the Kiwis who will be the new powers of the Oceania division and will have to go through this playoff system every 4 years...

Great to see the Aussies in there, there are a very good side

Well, since I'm Brazillian, the end result is really a moot point no matter which team wins -

You still have to beat us. ;-)

<ducks from flying chairs>
