I am 5' 9" and I use these fins fully geared up for diving. So snorkeling, even for a larger person shouldn't be an issue. With dive gear on I probably weigh more than your husband. I found that the fin's flexibility was very helpful on surface swims or snorkeling. Stiff diving fins (IMHO) make it harder to bring one's foot forward during a flutter kick. I was able to get very decent speed either snorkeling or diving. Plus they are very compact.
