I agree with BTravlin.... If you are properly hydrated then the urine will be almost clear with NO odor.... However I disagree with the porta potty statement.

We found one that had been weighted down with cinder blocks and deep sixed. No it did not land upright.....yes we did try to upright it.

If peeing in your wetsuit is a measure of relaxed and makes you use less air, then im a walking contradiction..
On my first dives I had no problem peeing in a wetsuit and my air, needless to say went down rather quickly.
30 dives later however (most of them in drysuit) I was not able to pee in the wetsuit even if I had to go so badly it hurt and my SAC was quite a bit better (but still too high)

In warm water I find that opening your neck and taking in a bolus of water, and then helping it down to the bottom helps clear out the suit quickly. This really works well with shorty suits. Only do this clear of jellyfish though. Full leg suits are a bit harder, but pressure higher above, will push out at the lower (leg end) in time. Now as far as dry suits go, I find I cannot do it yet. Even with the catheter and all,(which is a whole new thread in itself) I find I cannot go while under any kind of pressure/Depths. It feel like it is a pressure difference thing, that I never felt in a wet suit (no pun intended). Maybe it's just me.

You must have TB, Tiny Bladder that is!

Maybe! I do know that I hydrate like crazy. I got busy once on a trip and didn't hydrate so well and wound up with a massive headache. Well, the first day it was massive. The second day it was just pounding. Finally went away after the third.

I know it was from dehydration. Ever since then, I pound water or Gatorade and just pee whenever I need to.

Uh, how do you enforce a ban on peeing? How would you know if someone peed their wetsuit?
I've heard they have dumped a chemical in the ocean that will flouresce when exposed to urine.......beware orange contrails!

I heard a saying when I first learned to dive "You can pee in a rental, you can pee in your own wet suit, but never pee in your buddies wet suit" I pee in mine, I just pull the neck open during my saftey stop and flush it out.

Do you think whales and other cetaceans will politely pop out of the water to use the loo to avoid the embarrassment of trailing orange flourescence behind them? ;)

Here is what I had learned once upon a time...

You should avoid peeing in your wetsuit because the pores in your body get deceived. When the warmer liquid hits the pores, they open up thinking the ambient temperature is available to warm you up. So you feel warm for a few moments, but as the water around the warmer liquid (and around your body) cools this warm liquid down precipitously, it drops the temperature faster than your pores can react and you will feel colder very quickly as the cold warm overwhelms the opened pores. That is why you feel warm initially, but over a short period of time you actually start to cool down quicker..

That is not to say I will not pee in mine, but I do avoid it if possible. I try to go before hitting the water, and if I find the need to go, I will do so.. I will try to hold it if I think the dive is ending soon.

I am looking at a drysuit soon though and will probably pass on the p-valve, but am looking at the relief zipper for those pre-dive and surface interval trips.

Although peeing may indicate well-hydrated, it only is an indicator if the pee is near clear. Pee is your body's waste. A heavy color is indicative of unused products leaving your bosy other than just water....

But then all that training and education could be outdated by now....
