GUR-f followed by NAUI Master Diver is what a thinking diver would do. Then they can make an intelligent and informed choice as to more GUE, NAUI TEC, IANDT, TDI, XYZ, etc. What could be more DIR?

I've never learned more about DIR then what I have learned in the "Why Not DIR?" thread :eyebrow:

See, if nothing else it's been educational... :crafty:

That's it, you tell all those thinking divers what classes to take -- that'll show them :)

You'll have to excuse Thal's instructor instincts. And, due to he being one of the best instructors around, his postings should be considered by many...

Care to elaborate on what you feel are better diving protocols and instruction?

I also do not think that DIR is best, better, gooder, more better or any of that for open water diving. It is somewhat para military and macho and appeals to the navy seal team UDT Walter Mitty fantasy, a bit to intense.

Moral of this thread is don't open a DIR is better thread outside of the DIR forum and then get angry when one finds that lo and behold some folks just don't agree. Imagine that, people with well developed opinions who don't agree.

Well for one, and this has got to hurt, NAUI Cave 1 and Cave 2 are state of the art in cave instruction curriculum.

Also, in cave instruction, GUE avoids CCR, sidemount and other types of cave protocols that are of need in certain cave diving profiles, IANTD offers training for such. Deep air training, solo diving, both GUE anathema. Goes on...

Daniel,

Glad to know that you have dubbed NAUI's Cave 2 the best cave class ever. That really means a lot even if there hasn't been a NAUI Cave 2 class taught yet.

GUE doesn't teach that stuff because their philosophy is against doing such dives. Why in the world should they teach something they don't believe in?

Finally deep air training offered by IANTD reflects poorly on the organization and not to its credit.

And Down The Backstrech It's "I'd Like To See A Tank Explode' Followed By "Why Not DIR"

NAUI Cave 2 has been taught. Charles Sellers himself had a NAUI Cave 2 class in Florida this past March 12-16. And if you would like to know more about NAUI Cave 2 you can email SB's own Chickdiver.

Ah I see I was mistaken. I bow to your superior wisdom.

NAUI Cave 2 = Best cave class EVER.

Interesting that NAUI cave 1 and 2 don't seem to allow for CCR or sidemount either :)

This is the NTECH gear config (as was posted somewhere else)
No other config is permitted in NAUI cave1, cave2

"Twin primary cylinders connected by a dual-port manifold with an isolation valve are required for all training that will involve actual or simulated decompression stops. For training that does not involve decompression, a single primary cylinder with an “H” or a “Y” valve is acceptable."
