Why NOT DIR?

I addressd my comments to the NAUI cave curicullum versus that of GUE Cave curicullum, not the worth of the classess as taught. As we've said elsewhere 1000's of times, it's the instructor that makes the class. Also, NAUI doesn't teach everything needed by every diver as well...

The real thing, of course, concerning DIR is that one can call something DIR but it usually isn't...

Yes, but it's not very helpful to say one is better than the other w/out some kind of "because of ... and ..." at least it seems that way to me.


I have nothing against NAUI, and am taking one of their classes in Nov.
Thankfully GUE is small enough that I feel comfortable going to any of their cave or tech instructors for education.

Also, looking at a curriculum can be very misleading as I am sure a lot of cave programs have similar content, but can be taught in a variety of ways and have a variety of minimum standards to meet.

It's amazing how so many people who supposedly don't care what others do just can't leave it alone - from BOTH camps. The bone has been chewed so thin by now that it doesn't matter which dog wins it - there's virtually nothing left to eat!

GUR-f followed by NAUI Master Diver is what a thinking diver would do.

A thinking diver with money to blow. NAUI Master Diver is rather expensive.

I'm looking into doing NAUI DM. Fortunately, the instructor is willing to accept other training that we've been through together in lieu of NAUI Master Diver.

Excellent, cards just buy access and I think it is great when a good instructor is willing to honor the "or equivalent" clause.

Me too. This would be my second "or equivalent" (and with a different instructor)

This thread exemplifies everything I hate about DIR. Apparently there is some Scubaboard requirement:

"Any thread on DIR must generate more heat than light and run for at least 40 pages."
