This thread exemplifies everything I hate about DIR. Apparently there is some Scubaboard requirement:

"Any thread on DIR must generate more heat than light and run for at least 40 pages."

Dork Divers for me...

Thanks for your input.

But you are still somehow compelled to post...

Yea, so? What's your point?

The vast majority of the world's divers are not tech divers. They're vacation, resort, and warm, clear, open water divers. For all of us "vacation divers", DIR just doesn't apply. We're just fine in our jacket style BCs, single 80 without a pony, optional computer, no backup mask, no light, no tables, wetsuit optional.

Ok, I'll post something on the subject...

If asking why not DIR, you should define which DIR definition are you referring to! Is it DIR = GUE trained, or DIR = doing it right any way possible...

If DIR = doing it right than I think nobody will have anything against it...
If DIR = GUE trained then my reason is: I'm more of a solo guy...

I know a couple of GUE trained divers and they are all great people and don't bother me with their religion (I call it a religion, they don't) - we just agree to not agree about what level of risk is acceptable!

btw. some of them do solo dives and are aware that that is not DIR behavior...

For all of us "vacation divers", DIR just doesn't apply.

Incidentally, what about DIR (for hvulin's sake: defined by GUE) is inapplicable?

As we're beginning the turn at the opening of the third lap, now, is there anyone in the audience who would mind if this thread was closed?

(Is 'Do It Easy' anywhere around?)

:D

Why close it? It's far more entertaining than stuff about MOF, HOG harnesses and Jet fins. In fact, I was starting to pull for one of the DIR supporters but then I usually pull for the underdog.

It sure demonstrates that it's often easier to dig a big hole for yourself than it is to climb out of it.

Oh alright.... let the floggery continue.

When you guys get done somebody put all the bottles in the trashcan, and remember to turn out the lights.

Don't you guys leave this place a mess, like the last time!

And holy crap, somebody open a window! It stinks in here...

;)
