I like diving because it feels as though I'm flying over an "unknown" world and watching the traffic speed right by me. I feel weightless and I'm breathing underwater which feels great, and I am not thinking about any worries, problems, etc. that may face me back on "my world". In other words, it's very peaceful and I feel at ease.

I'd have voted for a few of the above. Simply being able to go 100 feet under water and swim around seeing what would otherwise be impossible to see is pretty cool.

But mostly I'ts seeing interesting / beatuiful stuff. Fan Coral's get kinda boring after a while, but all the different fish, turtles, sharks, octopii (sp?) are just amazing. It's Soooo much better to visit them than to stick them in a tank in a zoo.

Wrecks are pretty cool too. My favourite is the ThistleGorm cause of the motorbikes on the trucks in the hold.

Definitely the fun of weightlessness and joy of just being underwater...as well as the thrill of discovery. As well as by now, it is pretty much a habit...hehe. =)

Nuff said!

Interesting that so many responses draw the analogy to flying.

I've wanted to dive ever since I was a young kid watching Mike Nelson and Sea Hunt. It does leave me disappointed, tho, that I never get to cut anyone's air hoses.

Relaxation, adventure, enjoyment, fun, peacefulness and mixed with a pinch of danger is the best therapy money can buy.:doctor:

The main reason that I dive is to have a common interest with my spouse. Diving is a great activity for couples. I mean, you actually LEARN and practice being good buddies!

Since learning to dive I have gotten hooked. Having always been an explorer at heart, that aspect is what interests me the most. My dive buddy is into collecting plastic. What is neat about diving is that even with a different focus we still have a great time together. :)

It was at first to see the cool stuff and breath underwater ect., but now its underwater photography and to meet other interesting people - interested in the same thing. It has become something that my family can do together also.

Kinda crazy but...i have fished all my life..ever since i was about 5...and had no problem with it...but when it came to getting in the water....like snorkeling....i felt a little knot in my stomach....

About age 26 i ran across a bunch of guys that were divers....and thought it was time to get over my fears...

I was really supprise to how the training put me a easy with the whole water experience...and i haven't really stopped since then..

I continued to advanced...first aid...rescue....and currently going on to DM......I had to get to a point were i was confortable with as many situations that would come up....

and now i'm hooked......
