Why do Tech BC's have the butt dump on the inside, not the outside?

This, I just don't understand. You need two elbows to touch your tanks?

Placed where it is, the pull dump is easier to reach because there is nothing between your hand and the pull dump...

- easier to put your hand on it
- easier to find the pull, especially with thick gloves on

If it were on the "back" of the wing, by definition the wing would be in the way and you'd have to reach over it to get to the dump. Not a huge problem, but not necessary. In an emergent situation, you want to be able to dump air easily.

Also, if it were on the "back" of the wing you'd have to pull the string towards the tank, which would now be in the way. Further your range of motion is naturaly limited as you extend your left arm back, over the wing, and between the tank and the wing, and then try to pull the string "the other way" toward the tank.

Where it is now is just easier reach back, grab string, give a tug. Done.

It's not that hard to figure it out.

If you pull down, the valve would no longer be the highest point and the gas would shift.

A picture would be worth a 1000 words...but to find the right one.......hmmmmmmmm

I am so glad the dump valves on the wing are facing the diver.....they make wonderful points in which to hang extra gear like extra masks/noise makers/couple extra reels.

I will agree that this must be me.
Assuming a diver is in a horizontal or in a head down position, your talking about a difference of 1 or 2 cm-less then 1 inch.how much air are we talking about.

Not dissputing a logic or philosofy,just trying to see where my thinking goes off.

You need to pull the string AWAY from the valve to operate it. If the valve is facing TOWARDS the tank, AWAY from the valve is TOWARDS the tank.

If you would have a cannister or SMB in that location,it could interfere.

But you wouldn't have anything in the way. If there's air in the wing, it will "float" up next to the tank. away from anything you might have clipped off on the left side. (PS, a cannister light should be on the otherside anyway.)
