Why are some people so easily excitable about choosing to use or not a piece of gear?

I bowhunt and belong to a hunting/archery forum. Archery folks get pretty gear intense as well. The guys who shoot 3D seriously (I do it for fun and practice) get pretty uptight.

You should hear the Mathews vs. Hoyt (or any other bow) arguements. The Mathews guys are as bad or worse than the DIR guys. I shoot Hoyt and am not DIR. I still dive without dying and I have killed 2 deer in 3 years of bowhunting.
