I wish everyone would use a little larger font but then again it gives me a reason to sit up and take another drink of beer with every new page....
So unless we are talking about the funny plastic head banging things, most people that go off have little to no time with what they are talking about. Case in point, AIR2s. Some dipjack at a scuba shop went off on them for what ever reason and now it's law, never tried one but THEY ARE BAD!!!!
Diving is a progression. You learn one thing, dive some more then form different opinions and move to something else.
Funny, y'all jump on Lisa yet she is one of the few that can figure out how to use large font......Kind of makes you feel, well , you know, not so bright.

You will find this as others have said in ANY type of internet forum, from fishkeeping, motorcycles, cars, skiing, shooting and firearms etc.....

there are always the Triggers that start what ppl call flame wars

Trigger questions are either asked by the unknowing, and unwittingly invoke the flame

or by a "troll" someone who wants to stir up trouble.

Trigger words or questions that are universal are things like Politics/Religion/Abortion questions.....

...I actually agree that there is a real equipment fixation on this board. Posts with fantastic pictures or great marine life descriptions get no action...It's supposed to be about having fun, seeing cool animals, being in a different world, etc. -- not about backplates or BC's (Gawd, is that the most boring topic ever....)

Maybe many of the people on scubaboard are gearheads because they do not live in a part of the world where there is much to get excited about what they see underwater. Therefore they get excited about what they can DO and USE underwater...if that makes sense. We all find a purpose underwater whether it is hunting, sightseeing, chasing mantas, do drills in a two foot vis quary, teaching, taking photos, whatever.

I belong to three forums, Hardcoresledder.com (a snowmobile forum), Catsailor.com (catamaran forum) and this one. The snowmobile one is BY FAR the most antagonistic one. If you don't own the right make of sled you are branded for life. It's very hard to get an answer to a generic question and I sometimes feel badly for newcomers to the sport. This forum is not bad at all when judged against the snowmobile forum but it does get a little tedious to hear "You are going to end up with a BP w/ Wings at some point so you might as well start with it NOW!" over and over.

The Catamaran forum is the exception to the rule for all websites that I can see. While there are different styles and manufacturers represented ALL the guys (and girls) on the website are G-R-E-A-T. Very helpful ( I know of one instance where a guy offered to fly to another location to help a newbie set up his boat!!!). I have been blown away by the depth of knowledge and willingness to share with anyone on that forum. NEVER have I heard, you have to do it this way OR YOU WILL DIE.

The folks on this forum are funny as hell though!!!!!!!
