diver.net is still around and it’s older than SB, (late 90’s I think). It’s a Southern CA based board.
They had a few time outs I believe, but I could be wrong.

Not that I’m aware of? There might have been some episodes if downtime due to hackers.
I’m personal friends with the owner and have dived with him many times over the years.

Edit* I just checked, it’s still there.

That was my attempt at being funny/annoying 😂
I knew that but then some others, ya just never know . . .

Could be someone will come along and ask me how I did that when the town still existed 😉

I have no dog in this particular thread. But I have moderated other large forums before, and was meaning to ask about this issue. The tendency of some mods on this board to stealthily edit people's posts has always rubbed me the wrong way. Sure delete a rule-breaking post and notify the user, fine. Give them a strike and warn of impending ban, great. Even leaving a post up but removing a nasty sentence, and notifying the user their message has been altered could be okay. But changing the actual content of what somebody says behind their back (even if objectionable) is nasty, slimy, and raises all sorts of problems. Trust, integrity, free speech, and potential for abuse first of all (although some of the more facistic moderaters I've known might argue that those don't exist on their forums) and secondarily the offender never even knows they posted something objectionable if it's edited without notification. If you stand by doing stealth edits, why? What is the moderation guideline here on this? What was the thinking on that policy?
What stealth edits?

If a moderator makes an edit, there should be left behind where the change was made, something that looks like this (Mod edit) or《mod edit》or well you get the idea, not every moderator does it exactly the same way.

If you're asking that, you're asking the wrong question.

It should be "What can I do to be a better citizen of the board?" or "What can I add to this discussion to benefit the community?"

Moderators should not have to answer questions as they're there as a last resort, when things have got out of hand.

Indeed.

Mods are participants first. They've all come here to play and discuss Scuba. They are useless to the board if they lose sight of that. Moreover, they are not here to moderate "content" except for a couple of exceptions. Rather, they are here to prevent and delete rancor. Sometimes people lose respect for their fellow ScubaBoardians and respond out of meanness. We won't allow that, however, we often don't see the meanness towards you for various reasons. Remember, the mods are here first to have fun, just like you are. They aren't patrolling their SB beat looking for trouble. Ergo, it's important for you to use the report post button in the lower left of every post. Just think that they're in the donut shop until you report a post. Then, we'll take a look. Most of the time it's someone being oversensitive or wanting us to correct someone for not diving the way they do. Disagreements are not rancor by default. In fact, without differences in opinions, this would be a fairly boring place. But, there are times that when those reports merit our attention, and quite often we'll discuss the best approach. Then one of the mods accepts the responsibility and deals with it. Sometimes more than one mod.
