I just did solo dives at Gilboa this past weekend and I did a few up at Portage earlier this year. So far Mike and Jeff hasnt said no.

Just to be completely correct... Solo diving is still listed as prohibited on Gilboa's paperwork. So is decompression diving as well as a few other activities. However, in order to engage in these activities, one must have a conversation with Mike. Part of that conversation is for him to make sure you are properly trained in the activity and that you hold the proper certification level. After the conversation, Mike then makes copies of your certification cards to include with his paperwork if you are given the permission to partake in such activity.

Yep. Each NYD dive, I give Mike my ICE card and SOLO card when I do a new divers form.

To be honest, I havent read the whole divers form and I been going there for some years now. I guess I should really sit down and read the entire thing through.

Mike did last year call me at work after one of my ICE dives and asked what I used on his ice for it was a dirty brown color. I mentioned that I used a clay based oil dry to keep from falling on the ice. He asked if I would use sand in the future.

I know this is off topic, but are there any decent DZ's at Ann Harbor where you can get a good view of Lake Michigan while jumping?

That I'm not sure of. I jump out at Tecumseh, which is West of A2, and a bit south. Where do you normally jump at?

I jump out of Dayton Ohio and Wooster Ohio. I think it would be cool to jump over Lake Michigan. I bet the view would be pretty cool.

Skydive Greene County? I've jumped there a few times. I started jumping at Skydive Lake Tahoe, now that's a view....

Does that mean you still solo dive there?

No , I havent dove solo there since the No Solo posting early this year... , I am told Rich is working on it for next year tho'... we'll see... *keeping fingers crossed*

Really? Whitestar doesn't allow solo diving? Since when and where is this change officially posted. I have seen a bunch of divers solo diving there. What if you have "the card"?

Rich can you comment? Thanks.

Funny thing here, White Star has NEVER allowed Solo diving... the thing that changed was they started enforcing it. New look at an old problem... we have a post on this so I wont get into it here.

From My understanding it was the Portage incident where a girl (in a group) died that made the Park officials skittish...

To my knowledge that has never been a Solo incident in Whitestar.

There has never been a solo incident but a couple of incidents regarding solo diving were posted at the same time as the incident at Portage and they started looking at the subject a little more closely... they also looked at snorkeling and some of the hunting things they allow at the park too...

I got some good answers and some positive signs. I will comment on the original solo diving post as soon as I get clarification on one point.

Thanks for your support,

Rich

Rich,

Is bonecuddler diving illegally at Whitestar by diving solo? Please say it is so. I believe, and support, a lifetime ban for bonecrimper.

I can honestly say I have never performed a solo dive at Whitestar. I have either been with a buddy or with a group. :mooner:

Although.... Following PvtStash around can make you feel like you are solo diving! (I do think he has learned to slow down a little now.) :D
