Looking to attach weight pockets to my Mako rubber weight belt. Any suggestions of pockets that will fit the thick rubber belt?
In cold water I found that running the belt through all my let shortened the belt significantly. I want to avoid that.
Thanks

you just run the belt through the slots in the lead weights. Maybe I don't understand your question....

Mako sells 2lb weights that sort of "pinch" the thick rubber or silicone weight belt, but the belt passed directly through the weight without forcing it up and over and down like a traditional lead weight, so the belt length is unaffected even if you had a dozen of those on a single belt:

They also offer "quick weights" which can be bungeed around the belt for easy add/remove some weight without having thread them, which would not affect belt length either, but if you're adding a lot of weight, probably not the best option"

Also, yes, I'm sorry you asked about weight pouches, not different weights or different configuration, but I really don't like the idea of mounting weight pouches to a weight belt, that sounds like all kinds of clutter around the waist....

Before you try to add so much extra weight on a belt for cold water diving, what can you share about your current configuration? Drysuit or Wetsuit? Could you switch from aluminum to steel tanks to get some weight off the belt? Could you switch to a stainless steel backplate instead of a traditional BCD or an aluminum plate to get some weight off the belt? What about putting some trim weight pouches on your tank cam band instead of around your waist? I really really really dislike big heavy weight belts, and try to keep a belt under 8 pounds myself, putting the rest of the weight elsewhere.

Thanks for the inquiry. Since we do not sell weight pockets, I really don't have information on compatibility.
However, I would assume that a soft pocket would have an ample sized slot necessary to accommodate one of our belts. They are the same 2 inch width as a standard nylon belt and they are thicker, but not by a huge amount.

I know that some customers like weight pockets because it may provide them the ability to drop only a portion of the lead on the belt. That would be something that could appeal to a scuba diver; freedivers would just drop the entire belt.

I am not sure how to respond about the issue of shortening the belt?

Also, FYI, we sell standard hard weights as well.

Those quick weights are awesome! I love them...good for weighting students for scuba too. Mako is just awesome. Can't endorse their gear enough.

Just offer the guy a minimal discount on a belt that's the correct length, longer
and then he can put a screw through the middle of each weight, and go diving

If someone wants to shorten one of our belts, it should take 10 seconds and a sharp pair of scissors. Screwing weights to the belt is probably not advisable.

Thanks everyone. I am going to try cold water diving up north this upcoming summer and need a 7mil wetsuit. I tried a drysuit rental in a pool but felt very uncomfortable. With either suits I need 24-28 lbs depending on suit.
I have a SS backplate with a v weight in the spine holding 4lbs. 4lbs in each cam band. In dry suit I needed another 12 lbs I weight and it is heavy load. AL80 tanks.
The rubber weight belt does not fit around drysuit with all weights on it, so thought that adding pouches would be easier than threading the belt through the weights.
I don’t want to spend more money on weights S this is expensive.
I will use weight pockets on my lower cam bands now but was hoping for something ditchable. I love my mako rubber belt and don’t want to stop using it.
