We have all be assuming that our SDExcaliber has the whole range of choices open to her. Perhaps the instructor teaches the belt method to find out where everybody is before he makes suggestions about integrated BCs or tank/ankle/ring distribution. He probably can't object to a student choosing a soft vs a hard belt, though. As long as the weights are removeable, I can't imagine why he'd care.
