I think I answered the OP very straight forward and correctly! Usually from the south but it can change and is effect by weather (Highs and Lows)! ON THE REEF! Been there done that!

If you don't believe me take a Globe and turn it on it's side so the equator is at the top!! Now look at it and tell me water doesn't flow down! Globe must be positioned looking east! For reverse effect look west!

Or simple fill a glass and turn it over, the water will always flow down!
