Interesting to compare that survey with this one:

Back then IANTD were neck and neck with TDI (in terms of Tec training), and GUE were hardly anywhere. TDI looks like they are turning into the PADI of the Tec world.

But I have to say, the biggest thing that surprised me about this poll was how little Tec training PADI/DSAT do. I assumed they would be able to leverage their dominance of the recreational diving market better.

Easy...Too late out of the gate with nothing new to offer.

Not to mention that by the time you hit the tech diving range, you most likely realize that the PADI style of training won't cut the mustard for tech diving.

Yah I know, it's not the agency it's the instructor...................

Even I gotta say I don't have a problem with this....

In an early bid to stay with the "home team" I tried to find a DSAT instructor in Texas. Couldn't hardly find a few, and none of them wanted to proceed.

So I went TDI - no complaints about that.

Even after I finished Adv. Nitrox and Deco Proceedures I was told that I'd have to do the Tec Deep training (oh, by the way for more than I paid for the 2 TDI courses) to "catch up."

Seems that the few feet of difference PADI's recommended depth after training to is too much of a difference for them to accept crossovers.

I was at their HQ during the early phase of their program, and it seemed to have potential. Their materials are of high quality, and generally follow the Hogarthian method from what I've seen. Several times in the texts they note that their recommendations don't allow for penetration diving, and that you're going to need more training and modifications to pursue that. The standards specifically allow for instructors to deny continuing with a student's training if they feel the student isn't ready for it in terms of attitude and taking it seriously.

But the insistence in having all of the training lumped into two courses doesn't make sense to me. And since their lines of demarcation are different from the other agencies, it makes crossing over inconvenient at best.

Not a good way to break into a new market. But as has been said elsewhere, maybe for the best.

What tech training did you do with PDIC? Did they have text books?

2 intro to tech-type workshops and an equipment card. no textbook, but a series of handouts.

it's the instructor - can't run him down, he's an sb member. ;)
