I'm buying gear for the first time and have decided on my regulator, bc, and everything else, but I can't seem to make up my mind about which Suunto to purchase. I have my eyes on Cobra 3, Cobra, and Vyper Air. I'm not sure if I'm sold on wristtop yet, but I'm open to what other people think about them. Any advice is very appreciated! I'm testing them out in a pool next week to help me decide but I was curious as to how other owners like/dislike these models. Thanks!:idk:

P.S. I'll be doing dives anywhere from Atlantic wrecks to your typical tropical reefs. Cold and warm water (if that's applicable)

Since my Cobra's pressure sensor just went south. serial number 100,xxx (it was an old one), I went back to an analog spg. Gekko, Vyper, Cobra, same algorithm just different bells and whistles.

I prefer wrist computers and I don't need/want any signals from my air to or through my computer.

I have the older Vytec, but do not use a transmitter. I really like it's features and accuracy.
And I have a Vyper. But I don't have the USB cable - unless someone has one to sell to me cheaply.

But actually, the Oceanic Veo 250, wrist mount, is my main computer and I do have the USB computer cable for it.

What do I like about all three - BIG NUMBERS!!! I'm becoming more farsighted as I approach 60 years old.

I prefer the wrist mounted computer,... much more convenient to just turn your wrist or turn the computer to the inside of your wrist whilst hanging onto an anchor line, than having to lift an entire console, thus tying up 1 hand to monitor your depth, time & ascent rate. I have the Vyper Air, Decent recreational computer (not very good for technical, though- too conservative IMO). I have the transmitter, which is nice, but to be honest,.... I don't use it very much & use my SPG instead.

mosquito :mooner:
I still have 5 that my students use. They are great little computers.

I have a D4 for fun, and I love my Vyper wrist. I just like it better than a console.

I love my Cobra 3. Bought it after the depth sensor on my Cobra crapped out, and haven't regretted it once.

i regret selling mine...bought it back when they first came out. if i recall correctly, it was cheaper than almost all wristwatch DC's i see now. i just bought the geo 2 and like it so far.

Why suunto i have a D9 and HATE it, it's been nothing but problems, from the non-user battery to the fact that I've had it fail on me twice in the water with no warning whatsoever, and the very conservative algorithm why bother there are other computers for less money built to a higher standard.
