I have a D9 too, and I recommend it. I've never had a problem with it, and I've never caught it dropping a signal. The battery is not intended for replacement by the user (though it can be done), but you know that when you buy it, so it's hard to imagine why that would be a problem. Likewise the conservative algorithm. But if you did no research and bought it on a whim, or because you liked its looks, or because your local dive shop gave you the hard sell, then I could see how you might be disappointed.

the fact is the battery and algorithm are minor annoyances that would not have stopped be from buying it in the first place. the issues with it failing is such a short time and costing so much in repairs is what upsets me, and how would i have known that before?

If it failed in a short time it should have been covered under the warranty and what kind of failure was it?

I've had my D9 since 2005 and no problems.

ive had it for 3.5 years but only been on 100 dives with me. Both failures took place recently so it was out of warranty the first failure was a blinking screen that was un readable but function stayed intact. the second was on my safety stop it just blanked and went completely dead no warning.

Buy two Zoops (or used Gekko/Vypers) and a SPG........

For less $$ than the other options you have redundant computers and a simpler system....

If you need a compass slide on of these cool ScubaPro minis on the band, perfect for getting back to the boat or figuring out which way to shore in open water.....and it always works even if the computer dies as does the SPG......

My first computer was a Cobra. It was hard for me to to figure out the button combinations but once I did it was great.
