I’ll be in Cozumel (Allegro Cozumel with UDE) and then in Playa del Carmen (Royal Hideaway) from June 17th until June 24th. In Playa de Carmen I’ll do one day of Cenote diving, the whale shark snorkeling and relaxing; in Cozumel I expect it will be ‘regular’ diving.

What kind of suit do you recommend for me to take along? In 80 degrees water I’m usually fine with a rash guard (or my 3 mill). What kind of water temperatures can I expect in the Cenotes, what in the open water?

edit: could somebody please correct the typo in the headline? Of course I meant suit :(

As the undisputed king of typos, I am completely understanding and was glad to help. Just for the record, it is just coincidence that I read the thread and saw your request. You can do a cenote dive in a 3 mm suit because cenote dives do not have long bottom times. I do a fair amount of cave diving there, with much longer times, and I use a 5mm suit. I can be fine with that for a two hour dive.

I just got back at the beginning of the month. I used a 3mm for the cenotes, PDC and Cozumel diving.

I have done lots of cenote dives. Most dive a 3 mm or a shorty because that is what they brought on their vacation. 76F starts getting cold pretty quick like that. They will often show much less enthusiasm for their second dive and are generally happy to get out of the water. Virtually all shops rent shorties. Get one and wear it over your 3mm. You will enjoy it more.

I wear a 3/2 full suit, wife wears a lavacore. On our last day, I got a little cold at the end of our last dive...but not bad enough to worry about. We only had about 15 minutes left on an hour and 15 dive.

Have fun!
Jay
