which side to put computer/gauge?

which side should you put your computer and/or gauge? (not counting wrists here), but rather attached to the first stage...

I feel better with it on my left, because I know I only have my reg on my right side... but I've heard others put the computer on the right too, so they can have their left hand free for using the inflator...

any opinions?

I'd say the console feels best on the left side clipped to my BC. On my right side it tends to get tangled with my compass and feels awkward

I prefer mine wrist mounted since my right hand holds my camera and my left hand adjusts buoyancy when needed. I keep both of my computers on my left wrist so an easy turn makes them visible.

Connected question on console. I'm trying to get myself more organised underwater and was thinking of clipping my console (just about to buy one with Mares style clip points) on right hand lower d ring of BCD ie so it comes over from left across my body...but how easy is it to read the pressure from this? Up until now I have just slotted it gauge pointing up through my BCD waist belt, so I pull out/up to read. Do I need a clip with a retracting line or is this overkill? Apologies for the pretty basic question, but I cant figure this out. Thanks for anyone who can point me in the right direction...

I think you answered your own question. Since it is your gear and you need to know where it is and be able to find it and other gear when needed, you should put it where it is most comfortable for you.

......well, I 'run' my hosed AI computer clipped to my right-side waist D-ring, since I'm right handed and it lets me leave my left hand free to work my BC inflator, as it's a pain to do something like maintain a safety stop and be tuning bouyancy with the left hand AND have to use that same hand to read/monitor my depth and other computer parameters.......and I have an SPG clipped to my left-side waist D-ring as an emergency back-up to my hosed AI computer. Additionally, as of a year or so ago, I've added a wireless AI computer transmitter to the left side of the 1st-stage, and am wearing the wrist unit on my left wrist, as well as my dive watch....so I can view time and computer parameters even if my left hand is holding onto a safety stop line or I'm manipulating my BC inflator mechanism....which is especially handy at night as I can reserve the right hand for controlling my dive light.
