hi,

m deciding between a scubapro mk25/s600 r295 setup and an apeks flight setup.

at the moment m jus doing rec diving but hope to progress to do tec diving later so kinda hope that whichever reg i buy, it will allow me to continue using it.

am diving only in warm waters so cold water usage is not a consideration.

which of the two setup would you recommend and why.

many thanks.

If tech is their ultimate destination I'd recommend the G250 2nd stage over the 600.
If you go Apeks I'd also recommend that you go for one of their regular sized 2nds.

Check what tech people are using in your area and ask them what the reasons are. Theymight have figured out the logistics and pros/cons already.

I have two of the MK25/S600 set ups. They are nice regs. I just bought for my gal a couple of the new HOG regs and they are every bit as good if not better. I dove them last weekend. Environmentally sealed, and you do not have to pay big bucks for a hunk of plastic and metal that is only worth so much. If I had to do it over again...I would buy myself a set of HOG regs.

You can buy two of the second stages and a first stage for less than what I paid for a single second stage from Scubapro.
HOG Gear D1 Second Stage - Dive Right In Scuba - Plainfield, IL
HOG Gear D1 Coldwater First Stage - Dive Right In Scuba - Plainfield, IL

Also make sure to read up about Hogarthian diving if you plan to go tech at some point. No reason to buy gear twice.

The Apeks Flight was one of the regs I considered because of travel weight limitations. If you want to do any tech diving, keep in mind that the Flight uses special hoses, so you're limited to a short length. Of the two choices you listed, I think only the Scubapro would be the techie choice. Flight would be the tropical travel choice. Aqualung Titan LX would probably be a better compromise - it's still small, but uses standard hoses that can be swapped out for 5' -7' ones, and it's not quite as pricey as the Mikron.

If you are considering tech n want an affordable setup that you can use for both tech n rec I would recommend this in a heartbeat!

I prefer a DS4 if you prefer an XTX 2nd stage then this is what I would get:
Apeks XTX 50 DS4. Regulators Regulators, Scubastore.com, buy, offers, dive
+
Apeks Second Stage XTX 50. Regulators Regulators, Scubastore.com, buy, offers, dive

or if you have more $

Apeks XTX 100 + XTX 20 Octopus. Regulators Regulators, Scubastore.com, buy, offers, dive
or
Apeks XTX 100 + XTX 50 Octopus. Regulators Regulators, Scubastore.com, buy, offers, dive

In any case, you would still have to get a tech hose setup of either 5 or 7 foot long hose n a 2' necklace from either TDL or scubatoys.

For tech you want a reg that has a port on the bottom to route the hoses easier. The Scubapro MK25 has one for instance. The Apeks DS4 does not. HOG regs do, as do many others.

What??? A hole in the bottom doesn't make a reg any more tech than it having a swivel turret.

I'm IANTD & TDI trained & I've never heard of any tech school that says a hole at the bottom makes a reg more tech suitable.

SangP has made a nice presentation. Peter C's HOG's look like apeks. Is HOG something to do with hogarthian? I'm a Scubapro freak and I wouldn't dream of spending on that mk 25 stuff. As for the flight. Are you going flying or diving.
