Probably not the best place for this but/// Which islands and dive ops do you recommend in Hawaii? Traveling in June 2007 and the kids have yet to see Hawaii. Son graduating high school and this will be the last bigger "family" vacation for a while. Only my wife and me for a few years. :D

Been to Coz, Belize, Roatan, Caymans etc. Want to show them Hawaii and I've only been on Oahu.

Any help or direction would be appreciated.

If you're diving, then Maui. Molokini Crater. There are a few operations that leave from Kehei harbor. Ed Robinson's and Mike Severns come to mind. Both are great. There is plenty to see topside on Maui, too, so the family will have things to do. Kona on the big island is nice too, but not as nice as Molokini, IMHO. Not as much to see topside.

I have been pondering the same question and I think I would do the big island Hawaii there is a lot to do and see even for non divers plus you have the Agressor out of Kona if everyone dives.

Go with B&B on Maui. They're about diving, not selling books.

If you want escorted shore dives hook up with Shaka Doug.

I love Maui enough that I just have to move there next year, have to.

Maui is more of a night life party scene, the kids might like that. Plenty to do above water for a few days. Molokini crater is way over rated IMHO, the back wall and reef ends are world class. Kona side is not so much into the night life but it has great shore diving. Owning a boat there, I still shore dove most of the time. It also has the manta dive and blackwater dive. Many more days of top side adventures on the big Isle too. Sorry Lisa but Oahu just kinda sucks. Just got back today from my first trip to Kauai. Nice island but not so great if diving is you foucs.
If your into quiet and laid back, Big Isle, if you want shopping and bar hopping, Maui. You wont go wrong either way.

Thanks for the info/ideas. We've done 1 live-aboard and everyone (but me) said too much diving and not enough else. I'm thinking Big Island with one day (maybe two) on Oahu for the tourist things for the kids. (18 & 21)

Here are the resort options I have to work with. Any recommendations?
The Kona Coast Resort • KOC & KC1

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii The Kona Coast Resort II • KON, KOT, KN1, KT2 & KT3

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii Kona Islander Vacation Club • KOI

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii Kona Reef • KOF

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii Royal Aloha Vacation Club - Keauhou-Kona Surf and Racquet Club • KKS

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii Vacation Internationale - Sea Mountain • SEM

Punalu'u, Hawaii Vacation Internationale - Sea Village • SEV

What is the balck water dive? We are thinking of going back to hawaii in June or July, its been several years since we have been there. want to do the manta dive for sure. what about the lava tubes? Is that a good dive? I have been to Molokini and we may go back to maui also. One island we have not been to is kauai.
