If I were you I would go with an Oceanic. Both the 2.0 and 3.0 are great computers. The reason I say go with one of those is they are made right here in the United States. Oceanic has their factory in Oakland CA. It is nice to have a product made in the USA but the biggest reason is they do 100% quality controll. Every computer and regulator that is ever made by Oceanic goes through an intesive test before it ever gets shipped out the door. So I think Oceanic makes one of the best computers out there and you know your not going to get a lemon. You also get the free online course when you register your computer and you will learn everything you ever wanted to know.

The greatest feature ever to be on a dive computer is on the VEO 3.0...backstep!! The thing goes forward AND BACKWARDS through the menus. This may not seem like amazing but if you are adjusting the mix on your computer and you press to 31% and your meant 30% it means not having to go all the way back around. Or if you're looking at your log and skip the dive you want, you can just go back on. The VEO 2.0 & 3.0 are the only "low cost" computers that do that as far as I know.

Plus the dual algorithm concept is pretty interesting. The Suunto computers are one of the most conservative on the market with Oceanic being on the other end of the spectrum as more liberal. The dual algorithm lets you choose between two so you can adjust to what you want.

To be fair my Suunto Vyper also allows going back and forth in menus and settings and it is a good feature and a reason to avoid single button computers.

Another good feature to look for is a simulator function, so you can see what the display looks like without being under water.

I have been busy going through the Geo 2.0 manual, trying to determine which aspects that I will utilize right away. I, also plan to take the online class. Purchased from a local dive op and I feel good about that aspect. I buy enough of the other items online.

I see a lot of post for the Aladins. While they (Uwatec) make a good computer, their service SUCKS. (see my thread "Uwatec owners beware" on this forum) Three months for service work and counting..... and yet to get a reply from service department. The dealer who shipped mine and others in is also waiting a reply from ScubaPro/Uwatec/Aladin. Not a way to build a customer base...

How about Suunto D4. That's really great dive comp (except for low-vis dives, where you need really huge screen) with all the features you may need (except for tec-diving, since D4 don't support gas switching).
