I did as you suggested, hung it on the left chest D-ring, on a Saturday night dive. Worked good, except when I would dump air and use my left hand and had to let go of the light, then it spun once or twice, flashing as it did. Guess there's nothing to do about that, right? Other than that, it seemed to be a good position to have it in. Thanks.
Why are you keeping it clipped off while you need the light? Just hold the thing in your left hand, and pass it to your right hand when you need to dump air. Don't clip it off if you're using it.

Jon - Did I misunderstand what "Diver0001" was saying? I thought he meant to keep it attached to the "D" ring. If I unclip it when using it, should I use the lanyard around my wrist in case I get slippery fingers :11: ?
Thanks.

Eh, well, there's the hangup. If you can use it effectively while clipped off, your method of attaching the bolt snap to the light is too long. The snap should be tied directly to the light.

They don't sink very fast.. IMO you have to make a choice of what to do. I'd choose to clip off when not in use, and not have it attached at all when in use. You can use a lanyard to keep it on your wrist during use, but then you can't transfer hands.

No, you didn't misunderstand me. I meant to leave it attached to the D ring all the time. It works pretty well for me and keeps the lamp out of the way but I wear it on the right. I used to carry it in my hand all the time but I found it was always in the way. With it clipped off it's only in the way when you can't keep a hand on it or keep it clamped between your arm and your body.

Think about a way to attach a bit of velcro to your lamp so can you press it up on the velcro to keep it from flipping around. In the past I've had good success keeping my lamp under control like that.

Another thing you might look for is a sort of cable that you clip off to a shoulder D ring with a "telephone" type cable with a quick release you can release to hold and quickly stow when you need to. That eliminates the need for a lanyard and gives you a little more freedom of movement than keeping it clipped off close.
