Interested in pricing the Halcyon BP and wings, etc..

Any good sources?

And is the Pioneer Wings setup adaptable to a 2 tank rig.. or need to go with the "Explorer"?

Thanks :)

I'll give you 2 sources I've dealt with before.

Extreme Exposure (Florida) is the retail arm of Halcyon. I've bought gear from them and their sales folks are very helpful. They also will give you a 30 day no questions asked guarantee -- if you try their gear and don't like it, you can return it within 30 days for a full refund.

I've also bought gear from H20 Adventure Gear -- again, very helpful folks. This is the on-line store for 5th Dimension Scuba in the Seattle area, once of the biggest sellers of Halcyon gear in the country

You can also try the Halcyon web site for a listing of retailers:

Good luck!

The places large_diver said plus I've been dealing with what used to be known as “Crazy John's” for years, and have nary a complaint.

He's now known by the more acceptable moniker of “Northeast Scuba Supply” and has just recently added the Halcyon line to his stock:

Halcyon used to have a package called a “Power Purchase” that was the backplate, harness and wing (and in those days, an STA) all in one shot at a good discount over buying them pieces parts. You’ll want to ask the dealers if they still offer that package.

To answer your second question, Pioneer wings are for single tanks and the Explorers are for doubles. If you use an Explorer with a single tank it'll wrap up around the tank too far and may trap air. A Pioneer wing is too narrow for doubles, and will be trapped between your back and the tanks and won't inflate properly.

Yeah, to have the most optimal setup you need two wings. I'm on the other side of fence. I use doubles most of the time and, once in a while, I use a single 95 (rarely an 80). I just use my 55lb wing for everything. I have even taken it to Hawaii and used it with a single 80 and a thin surfers shorty. It wasn't great at all (well better than a regular BC, I guess), but not optimal. One of these days, I'll buy another, smaller, wing.

If I was diving singles most of the time, I'd get the smaller wing for singles and a bigger wing for doubles.

Yep...

As long as the wing is the only thing you need to change.. then the Pioneer may be the way to go for me (usually a single tank).

That's the way I went and will just include the price of the Explorer wing along with the doubles configuration if I decide to go that way. The jump (IMO) to doubles would require additional training or closely supervised experience to learn the specifics of doubles. Doubles would also mean longer bottom times and thereby probably deco so things like the balanced rig and proper bouancy take on more task loading. The move to a doubles rig necessitates a great added comittment in time, energy, discipline, and that always present scuba force...

cost.

I checked with EE and their price for a doubles alum80 with the Highland bands and the Halcyon manifold was 623 which is not too bad.

Not only do they have the lowest non-advertised prices in the world, their email address bounces back as undeliverable... :upset:
