Small bc knife on SPG hose, larger sheathed in drysuit upper leg pocket

I mount my small knife on my SPG hose, and a larger one somewhere else, depending on the dive. Generally I like it "upside down" on my upper shoulder strap. But there are a multitude of other places it can go, other than the lower leg.

Funny knife story. About 10 years ago I was diving the Tacoma area just on the other side of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. I was out with my dive club at a new location. We were diving from a park that provided access to a beautiful part of the Lower Pudget Sound. Anyway, after my dive I came up about 100 yards down the beach. Great! a long walk with all that gear. Anyway, I'm walking down the beach with my perscription mask around my neck and my ears full of water. Next thing I know, this guy is 3 inches in front of me yelling at the top of his lungs that I am on "His" beach. He goes away for a minute and comes back with a big boat pole. I dropped my goodie bag that had my fins in it, planted my feet like a Suma wrestler and pulled out my monster dive knife. I don't use it much under water but it has its purposes on the surface. They guy ran away and I went on to the park and put away my dive gear.

I stopped diving with a large knife decades ago. I dive kelp forests and the knife was more of a problem than a help. I keep a small knife on my BC in case I encounter fishing line, etc. Lanyard also a good option.

I have knives staged at various locations along the reefs that I dive. By knowing my edge consumption and having good edge management by the time I've dulled one, the next staged knife is there. When I do deep dives I carry an assortment of knives, each with different edge angles. At depth I use the larger angled edges, more suitable for heavy chopping like hacking through giant squid tentacles and use the razor sharp "back edges" for finesse work like carving my initials in tunas on the way back up or on the hangs.

I find the best place to keep mine is in the kit bag on the boat. I have yet to lose one. I highly recommend this as a good dive practice.

SS wire? What's that from?

Stainless steel leader ... it usually holds an assortment of hooks, flashers, jigs ... and is weighted down with something that looks like a cannon ball.

I guess they don't take private property seriously in your neck of the woods, eh?

Around here (the Tacoma area you're talking about) that sort of behavior only creates more animosity between divers and residents ... and those of us who take our diving responsibly tend to frown on it.

Next time, try keeping your knife in it's sheath ... and wading or surface swimming back to your entry. The divers who live here will thank you being a responsible diver ... and for not making our lives more difficult.

Small knife on Backplate webbing placed upside down. When I first dove in the Carribean I strapped a big Machete on my leg and almost got laughed off the boat by the crew and divemaster. By the way do you wanna buy another big knife?
