Where did you solo dive today?

Nice 120 minute dive in the beautiful Nanoose Bay area.

Beautiful shot of that GPO. Our flow in the south sound has everything buggered up for vis right now. This was from last week. I've given up on video lights for the summer due to the whale snot floating everywhere.

Vis was absolutely trash shallower than ~15m, perhaps 2-3m?
The real shame is I left that GPO to find other critters and when I returned it had left, along with my opportunity to finally get some pictures of one out of the den. It was showing lots of curiousity behavior so next time I need to just wait when I see that and have the time available. Good news is there were lots of other critters including enough in the shallows to extend my dive way out.
This was my first dive with strobes vs video lights, they are an absolute game changer in terms of cutting down on backscatter and true colour.

I did a couple of solo shore dives whilst in Bonaire. One was a night dive. The mission was to again view the ostracods bioluminescence. This occurs several days after a full moon. Taking a buddy would have been okay but complicated things as the requirement is total and absolute darkness. I wore my watch under my sleeve, I flipped my Shearwater computer over so the screen was against my arm. I turned off all lights and did not use those silly tank banger blinkie lights. I located a suitable spot during the daylight recon dive and proceeded to the location. Once there I shut my small light off and went totally dark. It was eerie as always and with the tarpon swirling about sort of spooky. My eyes dark adapted after about 20 minutes and the ostracods put on a nice show for me in the total darkness. Then after about 20 minutes or so I saw in the distance a glow of a light, probably some of my buddies from the group. My plan was to attack them in the darkness from behind . I moved to an advantageous position to ambush them and was in position and just as my trap was ready to spring, damn, OMG something hit me, OMG!!!!! ! Was it a killer shark, a giant octopus or some other man eater from the depths, did I still have all of my parts! No. A tarpon speared me, the bas----d. Ruined my plot to scare the beejeebers out of my friends. Instead I was the one who had the fright but the ensuing ruckus gave me and my plot away. Oh well, the ostracods were well worth the stealth mode and going solo. Still, it would have been legendary .

Other than certain gas management stuff there is no change to gear configuration for me anyway.

i bought a brand new hollis katana 2 yesterday and also i put my hand on a nice almost new mk 11 and r395 ( i already have one). My LDS is doing minor adjustments right now on the reg to put them sidemount ready.

Could not wait to start this new journey.

You'll have to do some hose length juggling to make a mk11 work due to no turret or 5th port. A banjo 90 swivel can help though.

Castle Lake, up by Mt Shasta in northern CA.
I planned to dive this lake right as the ice layer was partially melted at the deeper end. Unfortunately, overtime at work, delays in getting gear serviced, and a 90F heat wave through parts of the area meant I was about 2 weeks late for that. The water was still cold (dropped into the 40s past 20ft), but now also rather blurry with poor vis. A few other minor issues compounded into a dive that just wasn't as enjoyable as I was hoping and I had to cut it short at around 30mins. I might try again some other time.

look like a cool site. sometimes it's just "not your day". Tell me about it i know how it s feel. Next
time you will do better. Most importantly your safe and manage all the little problems. I am a strong believer that solo diver gain more experience on each dive cause they solo rely on them self to face different situations without the help of anyone.
