anyone learn sidemount without an instructor? 👨‍🏫 please raise you hand (i also mean doing it the first during the course of a solo dive ?)

Just asking

Cheers

I found this to be a really good sidemount resource:

thank you both of you i know both source. I am on the way to put my hand on a hollis katana 2 for a great price. And also a first and second stage like the one i have already. I will bring my current reg and the one i will purchase at my LDS for minor adjustments to make it SM.

This being said i feel comfortable to start my sidemount journey without and instructor for now. Back in the days i dove couple of time double while i was living in mexico i had the chance to experiment this, long hose, short hose, a drill etc...

My current setup while i am solo diving is a back mount 80 or 119 sometimes, and a sling a 30 CF on my left for redundancy.

If i go baby step i don't things i will face major issue going in by self in SM hence i am over 60 solo dive so far out of 200 ish with a buddy.

This will be exclusively shore dive with a easy access, average depth while entering is 33 feet.

I read numerous article and watch plenty of video about SM diving including the two you submit. Unless someone tell me otherwise i will give it a shot by my self. Open mind to any comments.

Do i consider taking an instructor? Off course. Will it be a steeper learning curve ? Most likely.

Although it was barely a dive, I did my first solo this weekend at a friend's lake house here in Texas. Another friend has lost his prescription sunglasses there last year, right off the dock in about 5' of water. I took my gear down there this weekend and tried to find them. Visibility was probably less than 6 inches. Didn't find the sunglasses but other than that, all was well.
