Local quarry. First time SM with a wetsuit (5mm) and AL80s in preparation for full cave class in MX in three weeks. I usually dive dry with steels. 5ft-10ft viz, 65F water temp at 22ft. Nice hour long dive. Viz was really bad on the shallow side of the quarry due to a lot of OW students, so I went to the largest platform. An instructor came along towards the end of my dive with a large class, but he knew I was there (white fins and bright can light) helped me stand out. He told students to avoid me. He knows I’ve had other students attempt to stand on my head in the past.

I felt so light it was really weird. Not as in underweighted, but just less stuff total.

Heading out to Stockton Lake after my coffee. Vis has been 2-5 feet the last few weeks.

1 hour drive in Tottem Inlet near Shelton. Friends have a beach house and figured why not. Depth was 20-22 feet the entire time Started at 2900, end 450. Pony 3300 start/finish. Saw a few crabs and an hours worth of sea pens. Kinda hoping that with the oyster beds near by I would find some post dive snacks but that wasn't in the cards. Was nice to find out I need to use a ball mount and not a static position for my camera light. New go pro 10 hero, handle and light to play with.
How did you like the go pro handle set up? What light is that?

Ha! I dove Stockton Lake once, a few (15?) years ago. Once! I saw everything I didn't/couldn't see. One of my most unmemorable dives ever. Like Mark Twain Lake.

Still, any occasion to go diving is a fun occasion, correct?

The setup is nice because it allows me to keep my gloved fingers away from the lens. There are plenty of attachment points on the rig for lights or anything else really. The light is a NiteScuba Sea60 from @minos2014. It is fantastically bright and does not wash out the video with a focused beam. Only downside is you need to use an M6 - 1/4 adapter on the light to attach it with normal camera hardware OR use the included ball mount. I've since added the adapter and cold shoe ball mount. The mount def needs locktite on the threads.

It ain't world class diving, I grant you!! I mainly use it in 2 ways.

1-it is a quick fix, 20 minutes from my door to the nearest dive site.

2-It is the perfect lake for dialing in basic skills (nav, bouyancy, running lines, etc). Sure makes it easier when you can see more than a few feet.

Today was surprising. Been 2-5 foot vis the last few weeks, got 10-15 today!

Yes, it's nice to have a place that's a short drive from one's home! For me, that place is Rolla (Quail Run Divers Quarry), approx 2 hrs from me (Columbia). But it is very shallow, which means it heats up fast, which kills the visibility this time of year.

Table Rock Lake is approx 3.5 hrs from me, a day trip for me, so it must be closer to you.

And I have done a day trip to Bull Shoals Lake, though I prefer an overnight trip to there from here.

Both of these lakes can have very good visibility for fresh water.

I have read/heard about Quail Run, bet never been there.

I do enjoy TR, had some really great dives there! Working on setting up two trips to the Lost Bridge next year. TR is 2-2 1/2 hours for me.

I have not made it over to Bull Shoals, but I have heard very nice things about it.

Exact type of setup I’ve been contemplating. Thanks!
