Where did all the bytes go? Files downsizing when sent via FB messaging ...

Hi all -

So, the issue is, a friend is sending JPEGS to me, via Facebook Messenger, to 'play with' as a learning tool for her. She sends files that average about 2.5-3MB, and when I save them and open them they'll be about 500-800KB, give or take. Where is the downsizing happening? Is Facebook doing it? Any clues?

Yes fb is doing it. Use email, WeTransfer or similar.
