Hi - we're flying into Kuala Lumpur at the beginning of March for a 4-5 week trip. We've already dived Sipadan, so we're looking for other good dive locations. Will diving be possible on the east coast of pennisular Malaysia in March?

KL is a good hub for the budget airline Air Asia, so although we've dived in quite a few locations in Asia, nothing is being ruled out at this stage.

Any help/suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks!

Hi dobie,

Layang Layang opens from March - August every year.

Layang Layang is an atoll ~150nm off the west coast of Sabah. It has stunning drop-offs and a nice mix of pelagics and other marine life.

You'd fly from KL to Kota Kinabaklu (BKI) then you book flights from BKI to Layang Layang as part of the diver package you buy with Layang Layang Island Resort.

Hope this helps.

You can fly Air Asia to Makassar. Then from Makassar to Manado on either Lion Air or Garuda.
From Manado you can dive Bunaken and Lembeh.

You can also fly Air Asia to Banda Aceh to dive Pulau Weh, although I've not dived there yet.

Malapascua in the Philippines is a good option too.... There's the thresher sharks, and a chance of hammerheads at that time of the year, as well as great macro diving.....
