We hiked down the goat trail to christmas tree cove today. I surf and freedive and have gone out in some rough stuff, but wouldn't today. a bit to rough for my taste. exiting would be the trick.
Saw a couple of divers thursday morning make an entry in front of nelson's at terranea, one guy had a rough entry.........wish I had brought my camera.

Hmmm too bad my first dive in California turned out to be a possible contender for the ignoble prize in hydrodynamics. I am just going to charge this one to inexperience. (I am the guy from Kansas).

I didn't get injured or die. (I was the guy who lost the fin in the video). However, in the spirit of learning, my dive buddy did get a bump on the head, but was otherwise no worse for the wear.

Anyway....schadenfreude may recommence

So did the exit look about the same as the entrance? :eyebrow: :)

Eric,
It was nice meeting you today and I'm happy you got your first Marineland pounding out of the way early. Nearly everyone who has dived there at least ten times has been crunched a few times. The rule of thumb at Marineland is that when there are no other divers in the area, there is probably a pretty good reason. :)

Surprisingly, (or maybe not since I did survive the rather steep learning curve of the enterance) my exit was substantially more graceful. I was a lot more patient with the timing. I didn't slip, get pounded into the rocks, or loose any gear (even temporarily).

Eric

P.S. Yeah, so maybe I should have elected not to go in. However, there was someone who had some experience with the sight and was geared up ready to go. I guess my zeal got in the way of better judgement. In fact, I did not even recognize you even though I had been browsing these and the other forum for about 2 weeks now.

Thanks for replying. I will say you have taken this with grace and come forward, so props to you.

1. We have had a marine small craft advisory since Friday 9PM.
2. Buoys 46221 and 46222 have been reading 7-10' swells.
3. Plenty of wind.

Pardon my ignorance, but where did you find that buoy data? I had only been browsing the CDIP data and it indicated that the 9'+ swells were done and it had returned to the 7' area which was where it was last weekend.
