What's up with lobsters?

A group of my friends just returned from a week in the Keys and they went lobster fishing.

When I lived there a few years ago (like 15), the season was July, August only and even that was restricted.

Are there more lobsters, longer season?

Mini season is the last consecutive Wednesday and Thursday in July (this year it is July 30 and 31). This must be what you are thiking about. The regular season is from August 6 - March 31.

15 years ago the season ran from August through the end of March. I don't remember the exact year, but it was in that time period when salt water fishing licenses were first implimented in Florida. The changes put into effect in that time tightened restrictions.
