Is that all there is to it?....
Yup. Backplate, wing, webbing, buckle. It's is all about streamlining and eliminating failure points, keeping the BC, bulk and weight behind you. I'm not DIR, so someone else will have to comment about how their theories relate to the BC/W. I can only tell you that if you ever take DIR, the Zeagle won't work for you.
I dive a PB/W and love it. Other's don't. Search. Read. Try one.

Put short, DIR is a diving philisophy that incorporates gear (with a simple backplate/wing as the foundation for the gear set), techniques, planning, procedures, etc into a holistic diving system.

But yeah, the backplate/wing is the foundation for the DIR gear configuration.

Well, im buying a new BC in March. I was thinking of getting the zeagle, but this bp and wing interests me. What about my inflater hose? I dont see one. . .does inflation have to be done manualy?

Im guessing it doesnt have integrated weight either? Thats ok I like weight belts.

It looks kinda unconfertable

Collin: Separate the hyperbole from the device. This little piece of gear is often at the center of passionate debate - both rational and completely irrational.

That really is all there is to it. Your comment is fitting commentary, my friend. Find someone in your area that rents them, or borrow one from a dive buddy - try it and see if its for you.

Someone will post a list of BP/W manufacturers - there are many. Some that sell configurations that are considered DIR, some that aren't (but are still, likely, fine BC's)

Yea, I think my buddy is doing the whole DIR thing Ill have to ask him to try it out. If I remember what he was talking about I think he said I should also increase the length of my primary hose, so that if I need to donate I give my primary up and use my secondary.

Sounds like a good plan - I know I'm very happy with my BP and wing
