Sounds like a good plan - you'll really enjoy sunset at the crater too - very few people seem to go there for sunset. I think the most beautiful thing is actually to watch the crater with the sun to your back as it sets - all the colors change and if there are clouds, you can often see the shadow of the mountain cast in them by the setting sun.
