I've received an invitation to be the guest of divers who have a place near Puerto Princesa City in the Palawan Islands. Not knowing a lot about the geography of the Philippines (heck, we only have eight islands in my neighborhood), I was wondering if any of the SB members dive or have dived there. What should I expect as the highlights of diving that area, specifically the marine critters?

Many thanks!

i've done a couple, although even in cathy's opinion they weren't the best sites (i flew in, went down, then checked into the hotel)

if you're headed to the Dos Palmas area i hear the diving is generally pretty good, i don't really remember the sites we hit as being particularly astounding (compared to anilao w/c is what i had gotten used to) but it was different from what i used to see in the luzon waters...

the good things about palawan is you get a chance to see dugongs and whalesharks w/c in my book will always be tops...

and if you do have a couple of hours in manila the beers are on the PPD

Ha... if that's the case, maybe I'll hang in Manila for a few weeks!

Seriously, appreciate the feedback. This could be a nice way for me to get to experience the Philippines initially.

The invitation is probably for June, but I might have to delay until their next trip sometime in the fall. I also got invites to go on scientific research trips to the Galapagos and the coast of Peru. Sometimes it pays to be a marine biologist... but not much!

No, really not much at all!!!!!:shakehead:

That's one of the reasons those paying "volunteer" dive vacations peeve me off so much...

Ahhh.. Galapagos... You guys need an Oceanographer to do the dishes in the mess, or something like that?:D
