I use a very similar coil for my camera. Underwater the camera is almost always in my hands, but I clip it together for entrance and exit.
I have 99 dives to my credit and have seen 5 people lose GoPros with wrist straps. Do the math - that's a high ratio. 2 got them back - 1 after an hour and one after a month.
These are cheap insurance policies.
