We want to take coffee, some different candies, breakfast bars etc...

Are there any restrictions as to what can be taken into Mexico? Or is there a web site that has this info?

I am not 100% sure but I think you should be okay with packaged items like you descibed. Not sure where you are staying but there is a very nice Wal-Mart supercenter style store on the south side of downtown that has about everything you may need and the prices are very reasonable.

We took a bunch of protein type bars down in our luggage without a problem. We bought everything else there.

I've tried a few different brands of coffee from Chedraui (wife is the big coffee drinker). It wasn't, well, what we have been used to.

What Bob3 said. It seemed a little strong and bitter.

I think pre-packaged stuff (coffee, candy, breakfast bars, chips, etc.) that you buy in supermarkets is okay. However, you have to declare all food items, which means they'll probably check your luggage when you go through Customs & Immigration.

We spent 2 weeks in Coz last January (and we're going back next month), and bought all food items that we needed at the Chedruai store.

I used to bring my own breakfast bars for the boat, because Chedraui didn't carry any. They do now, but I have never had anyone say a thing about them when I did bring them. I usually just packed a new box of them in with my clothes.

You can take most packaged food items from Mexico to the U.S. without any issues, it's when you bring fresh fruit and plant material that they get a little fussy. So I would imagine going the other direction is about the same.

Coffee is about the only thing you would need to bring. Either Chedraui or Super San Fran will have anything else you need. (Unless you need brown sugar.....we don't have brown sugar here)
