In Key Largo I've been using my 3mm shorty in 73 degree water in January. It can get a little colder inshore, but the outer reefs will stay more consistently 74 or so because of the Gulf Stream. I haven't bought a full suit yet but I think it would be the choice occasionally in winter on less warm days.

Here in the Great Lakes diving I were 4th Element Artic with a Under Armor base layer. In between them is a Light Monkey heated vest, heated glove liners and heated sock liners. With that I’m pretty comfortable for most dives

Drysuit with 4th Element Artic System underwater.
However it was 15 degrees yesterday morning when I left my GF's house and I was wearing one of my wool kilts, t-shirt, sweater, and light jacket and I was fine.

The springs stay 70F year-round. I usually wear a jacket between dives or not dive at all. On the dive I wear a t-shirt and swimsuit.
