I like http://www.fishbase.org but it is easier to use if you know the common name of the fish you saw or at least what kind of fish it was. Then you can do a search and look at the pics for the results. I don't know any that are less advanced/user-freindly. If you want a field guide with good pictures I use the Audubon guide but it doesn't include everything such as the gobyish thing I saw last weekend. Come diving with Neil and I, we're adapting hand signals for different kinds of fish ;)

Look what I've got! :D Ok so I didn't catch these myself but I did see two today. I think I'll call them Nickel and Dime unless somebody has a better suggestion ;)

perfect names......although when they get bigger you may have to change them. But I also hear that the fish will only grow depending on the size of the tank they are in, so if your aquarium is small enough....nickel and dime should stay that size forever! (its a scientific fact) :D

I'm assuming the aquarium is now set up and they are happy in their new warm home!

That old WIVES TAIL about fish growing only as big as thier tank is a load of horse pucky (other scientists come in and back me up any time here). My brand new saltwater set up is ummmmm "marinating" but ought to be habitable by tomarrow. Nickel and Dime are still in the pretzel jar but they seem less traumatized and more active now. They're really cute :D

:D :D :D :D

Glad you got those after spotting several today. I really wanted the orange one.....I've never seen an orange minnow before! :11:

Since when are MINNOWS marine fish? Don't you need your hood painted? "CHUM" in pink paint right?:10:

At risk of hijacking a thread......I know what I saw. There were a ton of minnows, menhaden, whatever. If I don't know what its called....it gets classified as minnow! That orange fish was cool, though. What was it? Some rock fish? I forget.

As far as the hood.....noooooo bright pink....just red.

It was a short big eye which is a nocturnal tropical related to a squirrel fish.

Minnows are freshwater fish and are often used for bait.

Red doesn't show up well underwater, everybody knows that, so it will have to be pink or else neon yellow to attract the fish. I was told that a cunner actually bit somebody once so I think we should use your hood as a test case ;)

Are you sure? I thought those are called shiners......

...and I'm up for any experiments in the name of science....so long as it does not involve being 'outside the cage'. :14:

So you'll let the cunner bite you? I'll have to go find a nice big one :devil_3:
