Ahhh!! The Butterfly fish is the prise finding. Keep trying. Hint. They seem to like to flaoat on ledges and not be in open water or off the cliffs or off the ledges.

Nine times out of ten when I see them they are hanging out by the irish moss (the red branchy looking algae) on the rocks. Thats also usually where I see the short bigeyes too.

Guess who saw MORE snowy groupers today? At LEAST seven of them ALL over the place :07:
When I arrived there was a guy I've met before getting out of the water and he had 3 butterfly fish, two bandtail puffers, and two cow fish. Also somebody else I was with saw a butterfly fish on an earlier dive.
I still haven't seen or caught one!

Gidds, Great to meet you today. Apparently your snowy white groupers were looking for dive buddies today. We had 2 join our group for both our dives. One stayed between us and the other apparently liked the bright color of one of the tanks. They were real fun to dive with. I came across another fish I couldn't identify even with our fish book. It was dark in color, if I had to guess I would say it was purple, with white spots all over it. Rather small, maybe 2 - 3 inches. Any Idea?

Oh... I did see where the butterfly fish were hiding.

The purpley fish are also the groupers. Sometimes when fish are frightened or don't feel thier best they get pale. The healthy groupers are black with white spots and yellow tails. The purplish ones don't feel well, I imagine because the water is getting cool. I think all the butterfly fish hide when I get in the water.

I'd be the best if I could find and catch a butterfly fish and then actually keep it alive in aquaria.

Gidds, can you recommend any good web sites or books to identify fish from pictures?
