Looks like we are at the peak for spotting tropicals in RI. Last week we spotted Spot Fin Butterflys and a Lion fish. The DM at the LDS spotted a Trigger fish (nice find). Our resident snorkeler and now again diver spotted and fed Snowy Grouper (s). Last year I spotted a Short Big Eye (orange fish with big silver eyes).

Besides these has anyone else spotted other tropicals and if so were ?

Take care

Chris.

I think I also saw a couple of puffers a couple weeks ago.
Since the other NEADC folks aren't members here I'm going to speak for them, plus I saw what they caught so I technically "spotted" it. There were also: cow or box fish which basicly resemble tiny orange or yellow blobs of sponge until you look closely, spot fin butterfly fish, a short big eye, and a nice fellow snorkeller named Tom was chasing what he said was a surgeon fish but he couldn't catch it.
If anybody is REALLY interested in the tropicals phenomenon I can put you in touch with another grad student in my dept. who is doing her thesis about it.

You got some secrete spots out there that I don't know about. We saw the orange blobs last year and they were cool.

Well those groupers are all over the place so if you haven't seen them yet I guess I have a secret spot ;) I suppose I see them when you hardcore scuba divers don't because I don't think it's a waste of time to sit in 3' of water with my snorkel :11ztongue
In fact I bet I see MORE fish than you guys do messing around at 85'! I also see cooler stuff such as a juvenile black sea bass with eyes bigger than his belly who tried to eat a lobster almost as long as him. The result was him swimming around with lobster claws hanging out of his mouth. Nearly flooded my mask laughing.

ScubaSarus Thank You!!!!
dbg40 and I spotted a Short Big Eye last weekend and I have been having a heck of a time identifying it. It was hiding under a rock at about 10' or so. We hung out for about 15 min and had to leave because there were kids jumping off the rocks right near us.

Yes the one I saw was hiding under a rock. He looked to be shivering but I hear fish don't shiver.

No they don't. Some reptiles can shiver though.

Guess who saw MORE snowy groupers today? At LEAST seven of them ALL over the place :07:
When I arrived there was a guy I've met before getting out of the water and he had 3 butterfly fish, two bandtail puffers, and two cow fish. Also somebody else I was with saw a butterfly fish on an earlier dive.
I still haven't seen or caught one!
